AGILE CONSULTING

How we get started

Are you ready to transform your team’s agility but unsure where to begin?

A good place to start is where you want to get, thinking in terms of goals and outcomes. Sometimes we tend to focus on what’s causing problems known, at this very moment, and we fail to see the bigger picture. When I consult my clients, I try to assist them to visualize where they are now and where they want to go.

The plan

Following our initial assessment, we’ll collaborate with your leadership team to map out strengths, pinpoint weaknesses, focus on key areas, and strategize for quick wins, distinguishing between short-term tactics and long-term strategic goals.

Sometimes this takes place as a series of company discovery workshops, where the appropriate stakeholders are present and take a hard look at the company’s position. To achieve these, whiteboard or online collaboration tools can be very helpful.

Your transformation

My motto is “keep everyone informed and everyone involved” during a change initiative. The more people are aware and buy into your transformation vision, the better. We do this by formally communicating to our employees the intended goals of the transformation initiative, and ensure we get feedback, and identify hopes and fears.

It is always useful to be aware of the diffusion of innovation theory as a starting point, in order to understand how a transformation effort can unravel. There will always be people who are more excited about change, and other who will be late to adopt new ways of working. We will keep working very closely, step by step, and I will assist you to reach your goals but retrospection and pivoting our strategy where necessary.

Embrace the journey of transformation — where challenges become opportunities, and every step forward is a triumph. In the realm of change, I’m here to guide, empower, and ensure your Agile evolution is not just a destination but a celebration of growth.

The challenge

In 2018, ING took a big step to change how they work by moving towards Agile methods, and aimed to combine their BE and NL banks to work better together. They faced issues like missing deadlines and not keeping customers happy. So, they decided it was time for a big change in how they did things. The chose the Spotify model creating Tribes and Squads focused around their products.

The transformation

With the new Agile approach, ING set up teams that could work more independently, using either Scrum or Kanban depending on their needs. This change, led by experienced Agile coaches such as myself, helped improve how they managed projects and satisfied customers. The success at ING shows how important it is to have a good plan, strong leadership, and the right methods to make big changes in how a company works, especially in the banking world. All this supported by experience Agile coaches who know how to pace a transformation effort.
